Born in Trinidad in 1939, Sir Trevor McDonald has worked for major news channels including ITN, Channel 4 and the BBC. He became the presenter of “News at Ten” in 1992, and was awarded an OBE the same year, with a knighthood following in 1999.

His autobiography, An Improbable Life, takes readers through pivotal moments in history alongside Sir Trevor’s personal reflections and stories. The book includes Sir Trevor’s trip to South Africa where he conducted the first British television interview with Nelson Mandela, his reflections on the Windrush generation, experiencing Barack Obama’s inauguration as US President, as well as his meetings with Colonel Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and his firsthand experiences of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and Death Row in an American prison, among other events.

An Improbable Life was published in October 2019 by Weidenfeld & Nicholson, with Sir Trevor narrating the audio book.
