Claer Barrett

Claer Barrett is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster who aims to help everyone make the most of their money.

An associate editor at the Financial Times, she presents the FT's weekly Money Clinic podcast, talking to listeners about their real-life financial dilemmas, and writes the Serious Money column in FT Weekend newspaper.

A consumer and personal finance journalist for over 15 years, Claer's frank, no-frills approach to talking about money ensures she is a regular guest on TV and radio, including ITV's Lorraine, finance phone-ins on LBC and guest spots on BBC programmes including Watchdog, Rip Off Britain and You & Yours.

Her short videos about money on social media @Claerb have won her an army of fans on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.

"She is the kind of journalist who tells you things you don't know about money in ways that anyone can understand," was the verdict of the Wincott Award judges when she won their prestigious personal finance writer of the year award in 2018.

Claer was recently named financial commentator of the year by Headline Money; the third time she has won this accolade.

Slicing through the jargon of the financial world, Claer's hallmark is communicating key financial know-how in easy, practical steps - with a dollop of humour on the side.

She is a regular on the after-dinner speaking circuit, and is a trustee of the FT-supported charity, the Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign.

Robert Caskie manages Claer Barrett's literary career in association with Karen O'Donnell of Chartwell Speakers.

Claer’s first book, What They Don’t Teach You About Money: Seven Habits that Unlock Financial Independence, was published in paperback on 16th March 2023 by Ebury Edge.
